Glamorous: The castle of Ehrenburg
The first building was constructed in the 12th century, the so called small “old” castle. It was expanded in the 15th century by the addition of two wings and acquired Baroque adaptations in 1732: Experience the life of former times – it is one of few castles which is still completely furnished. The rich furniture of the interior gives the visitor an authentic picture of a glamorous baroque residence.

Cute: The church of St.-Georg in Taisten
The church has nearly a square floor plan with a half-round apsis. It is a small church between Romanticism and Gothic with an intensive charisma.

Observant: The Castle of Welsperg
The castle has always guarded over the entrance to the Gsiesertal valley. It was first documented in 1126 and was the main administration castle of Welsperg for about 800 years until 1907. It is open for visitors in summer.

It is an important pilgrimage church: Each year pilgrims come from Welsberg. Every 100 years Welsberg donates an oil-painting for the pilgrimage – and these paintings will touch you deeply.

Convivial: The castle Neuhaus
A place full of atmosphere, a castle tavern on a knoll – that’s Neuhaus, more charming than defying but the home of great minds: Oswald von Wolkenstein used to spend some years of his unsettled life here during the beginning of the 15th century and the well-known American poet Ezra Pound used it as a hideaway for himself and his family during the Second World War.

Ancient: The nature trail at the Sonnenburger Kopf

Home-like: Troger’s town
Paul Troger, Austrian Baroque painter, was born on 30th October 1698 the son of a sexton and dressmaker in Welsberg. His “Troger-blue” is still mesmerizing. The tour starts at his birthplace and goes on to the parish church where three of his masterpieces adorn the altar. You then stop at some other beautiful places and lanes of Welsberg.
