The Sub-Committee for the Alpine World Cup of the International Ski Federation (FIS) has included a women’s giant slalom on the Kronplatz in the race program of the Audi FIS Women’s Skiing World Cup in the 2017-2018 winter season. The race, which will be under the auspices of the Italian Federation of Winter Sports (FISI) will take place on the ERTA racing slope.
That racing course, the showcase of the race, is one of the Black Five of the Kronplatz which runs from the Piz de Plaies directly to San Vigilio and has earned its trademark from its prominent steepness. The word erta in the Ladin language means “the steep one”. For years, Manuela and Manfred Mölgg have also trained on this ski run. For some time now, these two natives of San Vigilio have been among the main players in the Skiing World Cup and act as testimonials for the Kronplatz.
With its key statistics, the “ERTA” shows itself quite clearly and need fear nothing with comparisons with other renowned racing slopes. The start is situated at 1,605 m (5,266 ft.) on the Piz de Plaies and is served by the cable car of the same name. The finish, on the other hand, is located at 1,200 m (3,937 ft.) and consequently involves an elevation change of 405 m (1,329 ft.) with a length of 1,325 m (4,347 ft.) What is also impressive is the steepness of the course, with an average slope of 32% in a range from 22% to 61%.
