The 5th Mountain Museum at the Castle of Bruneck
There are already four museums – in Sulden submontane the Ortler mountain, at the Castle Juval near Naturns, at the Castle Sigmundskron near Bozen and at the Monte Rite in Cadore in the province of Belluno. The fifth mountain museum, which Reinhold Messner wants to establish in the Pustertal valley, is supposed to become interactive instead of static and should be a place of encounter. According to Messner, the Castle of Bruneck is the right place for his museum because it allows to be filled with content which reflects the valley. Another reason for that particular location would be the synergy of the mountain folk museum with Museum of Ethnography in Dietenheim. Central theme of the museum would be the encounter of people and mountains and the insight into the personal life of the people living in the mountains, from the Himalaya to the Alps. Messner emphasizes that he wants to invite people from other mountain regions (one family each year) to stimulate the exchange of ideas with the local ones.
