You can always count on the winter temperatures in the Kronplatz region. When the days get shorter, the natural outdoor skating areas in and around Brunico-Bruneck freeze solid. Young and old alike sharpen up the ice skates and hang out in Riscone-Reischach at the Eislaufring until well into the night, or else at the Eislaufplatz. Within the immediate vicinity of Brunico, there are also natural outdoor skating areas: in S. Lorenzo-St. Lorenzen, Gais, and Falzes-Pfalzen.
Fans of ice hockey will enjoy gliding over the ice on which the HC Pustertal trains: at the Ice Skating Arena in Brunico. And anyone who would like to send the puck into the goal with a stick themselves is well advised to try out the man-made skating rink in S. Giorgio-St. Georgen, at the entrance to the Valle Aurina-Ahrntal. Thanks to a floodlighting system, it is open until 9:00 P.M.
Sending the heavy stones sliding over the natural ice, anxious waiting, who gets to shoot next? In Riscone and S. Giorgio, there is an ice surface reserved for curling. Snow-covered fir trees reach all the way to the banks of the pond. A few low-hanging branches have frozen in the ice. Nature-lovers and romantics will love the Laghetto d’Issengo-Issinger Weiher in sun-drenched Falzes-Pfalzen. All of the ice skating areas offer ice skate rental.
