in Campo Tures
Anyone who travels to Campo Tures-Sand in Taufers will soon notice it: every direction is up. The characteristic landscape flirts with a deep summer green that stretches up slowly but surely to the slopes, only to then depart for the higher elevations of the forests and finally show its steepest, wildest, most challenging side: solid rock and boulders under blazing blue skies as far as the eye can see, then once again the gentle green and the scent of Alpine herbs that defy the wind and weather. In between, one of the many small, crystal-clear Alpine lakes sparkles out from a hollow. Stop, breathe deeply, be overwhelmed.
Campo Tures is a playground for dyed-in-the-wool mountain climbers. From all sides, the three thousand meter (ten thousand foot) peaks smile down, encouraging the ambitious to conquer a new, unique summit every day. Just from here, a whole series of high Alpine tours and mountain tours start out into the protected natural paradise of the Vedrette di Ries-Rieserferner chain which demand skill and conditioning: the Triangolo di Riva-Dreieckspitze, Pizzo di Vedrette-Fernerköpfl, Monte Nevoso-Schneebiger Nock, and many, many more. To get started, there are of course many tours that are more tame, such as the one to the Geltalspitze-Cima Val Fredda from the Valle di Riva-Reintal.
