Sights in Chienes

Sights worth seeing in Chienes?  Pretty much everything that meets the eye.  After all, it is located right in the middle of the “green valley”, as the Val Pusteria-Pustertal is known, embedded in scenery of hills thickly covered with conifers, dramatically high mountains, and villages that could each be right out of a postcard.  All of the beauty that Mother Nature has handed out here across the land with particular satisfaction is worthwhile to see.  Such as the nearby Laghetto d’Issengo-Issinger Weiher pond, sometimes known as the “sea of the Val Pusteria”, one of the last pond biotopes in South Tyrol-Südtirol which, with its shimmering green, tempts visitors to jump in.

Anyone who prefers to be tracking down history through the Kronplatz region has a good starting point in Chienes.  They can head for Casteldarne-Ehrenburg Castle or the S. Sigismondo-St. Sigmund parish church and listen to ancient tales.  And those who just can’t get enough of natural and cultural wonders here, in the immediate vicinity, will do best to seek the wisdom of the past: between Masi-Hofern and Issengo-Issing close to Molini-Mühlen rises up a Norway spruce. This tree that is around a hundred years old reaches a height of a good 25 m (82 ft.) and has a diameter of 34 cm (13 in).
