Riva di Tures/Rein in Taufers in winter
Tures-Taufers Castle a Campo Tures/Sand in Taufers

Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures

In an open area and with an open heart, Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures receives its visitors at the entrance to the valley but then suddenly withdraws behind Taufers Castle. Massive, like a giant block of stone with several towers, it stands there, the medieval fortress, just as if it wants to prevent travelers from continuing on further into the Ahrntal valley, encouraging them to pause for a moment. And then, between the village of Gais and the main center of Sand in Taufers, landscape images open up that could hardly be more exciting. Right in the midst of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park and next to two other Nature Parks, where mountains try to vie with each other for height, visitors are fascinated by steep slopes, dense forests, lonely peaks, and wild waters. Mountain lakes, streams, the wild Ahr River, and roaring waterfalls – the water of the valley bears the power of the mountains.

In its bars and restaurants, you can really feel the hospitality and the importance given to good food for which South Tirol is famous. But you can also discover exciting attractions, interesting museums, living crafts and the many places to shop. You’ll find moments of relaxation in wellness.

In winter

When the sun makes the snow sparkle in the early hours of the morning, it is high time to discover the fantastic landscape.

Go skiing or snowboarding in the Kronplatz, Speikboden or Klausberg ski areas, where you can treat yourself to South Tyrolean fare in the mountain and ski huts. If you want to explore the pristine countryside, the best way to do so is by winter hiking, snowshoeing or on ski tours. More adrenaline-charged options include ice climbing or tobogganing. Sand in Taufers is also the ideal starting point for a spot of leisurely cross-country skiing.

In summer

If you’re lucky, you’ll discover fluffy marmots and wild chamois on a hike through the nature reserve. More than 80 3,000-metre high mountains surround you, daring ambitions mountaineers to conquer them. Hop on your bike and enjoy easy tours in the valley and more strenuous ones in the mountains. Unlimited biking fun is guaranteed!
