at Val Casies-Monguelfo-Tesido
The splendid Welsperg Castle above Monguelfo-Welsberg is the only castle in the Val Pusteria-Pustertal valley that is accessible for visitors. A visit to the castle can be excellently combined with a stroll along the “Welsperg Castle Path” or the “Great Castle Route”. The castle and its garden are the scene for a variety of concerts and art exhibitions. On the steep, forested hilltop across from Welsperg Castle are the Thurn ruins.
The St. George church in Tesido-Taisten is among the oldest houses of worship in the Val Pusteria. Its founding presumably dates back to the Carolingian era.
The famous painter Paul Troger was born in Monguelfo. Troger made a gift of the high altar painting and both side altar paintings in the Monguelfo parish church to his home religious center.
