Climbing in Valle Aurina

Climbing in the Valle Aurina

It doesn’t matter whether you’re close to the ground with bouldering or constantly striving to get higher and higher with classic sport climbing – the Valle Aurina-Ahrntal with its rugged landscape, its many erratic boulders, and the numerous rocky slopes and cliffs offers the ideal conditions for a very personal struggle against gravity, against the rock, and against the challenges which the climbing routes in fact present. Both beginners and top athletes can find what they are looking for there.

The Schwarzbachalm: A Climbing Paradise

Having followed the signs shortly after Lutago-Luttach and having parked the car, the Schwarzbachalm-Hütte can already be seen from the parking lot up at around 1,400 m (4,600 ft.) above sea level, surrounded by numerous boulder blocks of sizes 1 to 3. After a short, approximately twenty minute climb, there is nothing else getting in the way of trying out the fun on the formations made of gneiss and marble. And also on offer: a tight rope course. What is important there is not to be concentrating on the rock so much that the unique surroundings are missed.  Because as is the case with particularly demanding climbing areas, they, too, can make you hold your breath.
