Man’s fascination with mountains has been unbroken as long as anyone can remember.
LUMEN gives this fascination a photographic home: located at the summit of the region Kronplatz (in South Tyrol), 1,800 square metres are dedicated to mountain photography.
Spanning four floors LUMEN offers the possibility to experience the history of mountain photography from its beginnings until the present as well as displaying the art of mountain-photographers from all over the world.
MORETowering at the top of Mount Kronplatz surrounded by awe-inspiring views of the Dolomites, Valdaora-Olang, Brunico-Bruneck and the Badia valley, the MMM Corones is the final gemstone of mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner's museum series. Dedicated to the great walls of the world, the museum at 2275 m above sea-level embodies the most prestigious discipline in mountaineering and offers a unique glimpse of the lives of mountaineers and climbers. The collection is a singular treasure chest filled with objects, images and tools from Reinhold Messner's life as a mountaineer who knows no boundaries.
The sixth and last Messner Mountain Museum was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
The Plan de Corones-Kronplatz is one of the most ideal panorama mountains in the Val Pusteria-Pustertal valley. The mountain forms the natural border between the Val Pusteria and the Val Badia-Gadertal, the main ridge of the Alps, and the Dolomites – and the mountain panorama that is offered is correspondingly imposing. Located on the summit of the Plan de Corones, which can be reached with a variety of ski lift facilities, is the “Concordia 2000” peace bell. The bell can be visited throughout the entire year. It was positioned on a viewing platform which presents a relief of all of the surrounding peaks.
