Andreas Zingerle has designed "Maden" inspired by the ambivalent perception we have towards these insects. Insects that can be repulsive and harmful, yet represent an important part of the ecosystem. The interplay of form and material – in this case, the rather unusual concrete for art – ultimately gives the artwork its fossil-like appearance.

As in his other works, "Maden" demonstrates with what enthusiasm Zingerle, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, confronts viewers of his works with special and often irritating objects. Works that challenge our perception and evade straightforward interpretation. The contradiction inherent in "Maden" reflects that very ambivalence which often arises in art, touching upon all conceivable emotional worlds with its diverse facets. Thus, an artwork, although disturbing, can still generate great fascination.
