An oversized suitcase made of pale wood immediately draws the eye. Its lines appear clear, open and familiar, while light filters through the narrow wooden slats and shadows drift slowly across the floor and walls. It evokes the idea of departure, yet the emptiness within transforms its meaning entirely.
Maurizio Perron, a sculptor from Piedmont and internationally acclaimed artist, has devoted himself to the art of sculpture since childhood. His monumental works in wood, stone, ice and snow, exhibited around the world, repeatedly examine the relationship between humankind and nature. “The Empty Suitcase” is an expression of an era in which certainty has become fragile. Created against a backdrop of war and geopolitical uncertainty, which have reshaped the very idea of travel, the artwork creates a space that visitors can step into – a refuge that transcends cultural barriers and prejudice. The suitcase thus becomes a symbol of hope and the longing for a future in which borders can once more become bridges of peace and genuine human connection.
