Feeding the spirit and soul

Old buildings carry the visitor away into the past. Young buildings bring surprises into the city, village, and rural landscape. Thus the new is interwoven with the old, combined into a tapestry called culture. Some colors are dominant, others form the background against which the highlights radiate. A colorful cultural tapestry lies over the Kronplatz region. Those in search of art will strike it rich not only in Brunico-Bruneck, but also in the nearby villages. Those who, on the other hand, prefer entertainment don’t have to do without broadening the horizons. And those who love nature and exercise can also find plenty to learn along the way.

Castles & Churches

Brunico Castle, which continues to watch over the city at its feet, was erected by the bishop of Bressanone-Brixen Bruno von Kirchberg.

The Kronplatz region has a lot of castles and fortresses, but also churches and chapels. The oldest church structure in the Val Pusteria-Pustertal valley is the St. George Chapel in Tesido-Taisten: its cornerstone was laid in the eighth century AD.

History & Nature

H

The everyday life of a bygone era is brought closer by the Lippa Sawmill in Valdaora-Olang and the cialciara (limestone ovens) in the viles of San Martino in Badia-St. Martin in Thurn.

Nature in its most charming and quiet form beckons with the earth pyramids in Perca-Percha, in the Rasner Möser biotope in the Valle Anterselva-Antholzertal, and in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina/Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. To a past that goes back far, very far, back when the foundations of the Dolomites themselves were being laid, that is where the Dolomites fossils in S. Vigilio go back to.

Going from prehistory to history, the instructional path leads to Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Roman settlements in S. Lorenzo and to deeper understanding in the Museum Mansio Sebatum
